Abstract: Italian urban time policies started at the beginning of the Nineties within the framework of regulation for public administration reform. The power to coordinate public services timetables is given to the Mayor, with the
aim of orienting them towards users'needs. This in turn implies to intervene in time-schedules that regulate human relationships at urban level, that is what a number of municipalities is doing, sometimes within the overall framework of regional
regulation. What distinguishes the Italian experience in Europe is the accent on practice, experimentation, intervention at local level, starting from the first experiences in Modena and Reggio Emilia and from innovative proposals on regulation. The
cultural, social and economic transformations currently under way in Europe legitimate in an informal way time policies, more throughly than any formal regulation would do. the main time related features in these transformation trends can be summarised
